Bean 'n' Burger Pockets (recipe)

Ingredients for 5 servings
1 1/4 poundground beef
1 can(14 1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can(8 oz.) tomato sauce
1/2 cuponion chopped
cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoonsugar
1 teaspoonsalt seasoned
1 teaspoonchilli powder
1/2 teaspoonground cumin
1/8 teaspoonthyme dried
1/8 teaspoonSavory
1/8 teaspoonmarjoram
1/8 teaspoonoregano
1/8 teaspoonParsley flakes
1 can(8 3/4 oz.) navy beans, rinsed and drained
1 can(8 3/4 oz.) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can(8 3/4 oz.) lima beans, rinsed and drained
Pita breads, halved
1/2 cupShredded cheddar cheese, optional

recipe preparation

In a heavy suacepan or Dutch oven, brown beef; drain. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, onion, garlic, brown sugar and seasonings. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in beans; heat through. Spoon about 1/2 cup into each pita half. Top with cheese if desired. Yield 5 servings.
